Isn't it the saddest that I've never read that before? What a rousing speech! I love how God is mentioned so many times and how he feels answerable to Him. I really think that is the problem with the world these days...we aren't answerable to the Laws of Nature...the Laws of God. Loved the speech and will be reading it to my children tonight at dinner.

I like the line at the end:
"What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?"
That is how I feel when some big issues arise in our society. Embryonic stem cells, for example; is the noble effort to prolong life worth the life of another? I am pro-life, but I don't believe life is above other values, such as freedom.
I also liked the line in the 4th paragraph, "Suffer not yourselves to be betrayed with a kiss," and also "Let us not deceive ourselves." He was right. If they had waited too long to fight back, it would have been too late.
Besides the great content, is was a well-written speech. Do we have to wait until Thursday to read the next one????

FYI - according to some internet sources, this speech wasn't written down until years after Henry's death. It is only as accurate as the memories of those in attendance. One of those attendees said he'd been on the opposing side before the speech, but was so moved that he was convinced to take up arms.
Right when Henry said the last, famous line, "Give me libery or give me death," everyone yelled, "To arms! To arms!"
